Rana Pratap Karforma is an accomplished cinematographer based in Kolkata, and working across India. He completed his post-graduation in cinematography in 2016 from Roopkala Kendro, the esteemed Film Institute in Kolkata, run by the West Bengal State Government.
Rana Pratap Karforma’s narrative works have garnered recognition on national and international stages at various prestigious film festivals. His impressive body of work includes the highly acclaimed and winner of the 69th National Film Award for Best Bengali Film, ‘KALKOKKHO’ (HOUSE OF TIME), directed by Rajdeep Paul & Sarmistha Maiti and produced by Aurora Film Corporation. Kalkokkho’s World Premier was at the 26th Busan International Film Festival, 2021, in South Korea in the New Currents Competition section. Its Indian Premier was at the 52nd International Film Festival of India (IFFI), GOA, 2021 in the Indian Panorama Feature Film Selections section. Rana Pratap Karforma earned acclaim for his mesmerizing, surreal, and innovative visuals in Kalkokkho, solidifying his reputation as a cinematographer with a distinct vision.
His feature film GHASJOMI (GRASSLAND), directed by Sumantra Roy and produced by Mosaic In Films, premiered at the Indian Film Festival Stuttgart, 2022 and was also shown at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, 2022, Kolkata International Film Festival, 2022 and International Film Festival of Thrissur, 2023 to name a few and travelled to many more. The film garnered widespread acclaim from every corner, all applauding its naturalistic cinematography with fine interplay of light and shadow, tuned to the mood of each scene, coupled with judicious use of camera movements. For Ghasjomi, Rana Pratap Karforma was NOMINATED for the BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY AWARD at the FILMFARE BANGLA AWARDS 2024.
MONPOTONGO (MINDFLIES), directed by Rajdeep Paul & Sarmistha Maiti and produced by Aurora Film Corporation was awarded the Golden Royal Bengal Tiger Award for Best Bengali Panorama Film at the 29th Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF), 2023. Critics, viewers, and several fellow filmmakers praised Mon Potongo and its immersive and captivating cinematography.
